The 2023 LEA Academy will be held on October 5 and 6 at the Hot Springs Convention Center. This year’s Academy will feature a variety of sessions designed to assist educators as they lead their districts toward more inclusive education.
The keynote speaker for the 2023 LEA Academy will be Marcia L. Tate, Ed.D. Dr. Tate is the former Executive Director of Professional Development for the DeKalb County School System, Decatur, Georgia. During her 30-year career with the district, she has been a classroom teacher, reading specialist, language arts coordinator, and staff development executive director. She received the 2001 Distinguished Staff Developer Award for the State of Georgia and her department was chosen to receive the Exemplary Program Award for the state.
Dr. Tate holds a Bachelor's in Psychology and Elementary Education from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her master's degree in remedial reading from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, her specialist degree in educational leadership from Georgia State University, and her doctorate in educational leadership from Clark Atlanta University. Spelman College awarded her the Apple Award for excellence in the field of education.
We welcome all Superintendents, Principals, Special Education Supervisors, and Early Childhood Coordinators to join us for the 2023 LEA Academy, as we are ALL IN for students in Arkansas.

Come attend sessions focused on a variety of topics that will assist you in accelerating learning for your students with disabilities.
There will be sessions on the new Arkansas Teaching and Learning Assessment System
(ATLAS), executive functioning, dispute resolution, SPED Finance, and several sessions led by Arkansas Educators. There will also be multiple sessions that have an Early Childhood focus.
